I worked in marketing and digital engagement and got to see how much thought goes into creating content for a specific audience. One of the projects I worked around was Salt Bridge Farm, a community that provides housing and support for survivors of domestic violence and people recovering from addiction. Being able to help communicate the purpose behind a place like Salt Bridge Farm made the work feel much more meaningful to me. It showed me that digital communication can do more than promote an organization. It can bring attention to important causes and help people understand the impact an organization has on its community. That experience made me realize that I want my work in communications to have a purpose behind it and to connect with people on a more personal level.

I also had the opportunity to shadow Kevin Sherlock, Vice President of Marketing & General Manager at Church & Dwight Co., Inc., which gave me another perspective on the type of communicator I want to become. I sat in on meetings, including discussions about partnerships with MLB, and got a behind-the-scenes look at brands like ARM & HAMMER, OxiClean, and XTRA. What stood out to me was how many different people and ideas are involved in building a brand. Seeing the strategy behind the creative work made me realize that I do not just want to create content. I want to understand the audience behind it and the reason a brand chooses to communicate in a certain way. This experience also reflects an important part of my personal brand: I am curious and willing to put myself in new environments to learn. I want to continue being someone who asks questions, builds connections and looks for opportunities to grow. My experience at Church & Dwight helped me see how those qualities can become part of the way I approach a career in PR and marketing.
